Our Community Day Services
This is our 100% community-based day program serving adults with developmental disabilities. The program focuses on pre‑vocational skills, safe use of public transportation, social skills practice, and exploration of individual interests.
As a Community Guide, you will be responsible for:
Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
Providing opportunities for the participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self‑regulation/coping techniques.
Providing hands‑on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant’s pre‑vocational skills, and finding educational opportunities or classes to assist with further development.
Advocating for participants’ inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.
Using BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance.
Schedule
Part-time (27 hours a week)
Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Starting at $19.00 – $22.00/hour (depending on prior experience and qualifications)

Required Qualifications
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
High school diploma or GED.
Must pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background clearance.
Valid California Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Fluent in Spanish.
Cultural awareness and adaptability.
Familiarity with the Los Angeles Metro system (MetroGo app, route planning, etc.).
Crisis management skills.
Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities. If you don’t have experience, we will provide on-the-job training. Some of our best staff did not have experience prior to being hired at BuildAbility!
