Job Summary Michigan Medicine's Office of Development raises an average of $200 million annually. The Leadership Annual Giving Officer reports to the Director of Annual Giving, Office of Development, and will play a critical role in the direct solicitation of leadership annual gifts ($1,000–$25,000) and identification of major gift prospects. The role also supports cross‑organization fundraising initiatives to increase leadership annual donors and revenue.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of prospects and conduct direct, face‑to‑face solicitation of gifts from $1,000–$25,000 or more (60%).

Communicate with, engage, and qualify philanthropic interests of potential donors.

Steward and engage existing annual donors to cultivate future giving and major gift potential.

Serve as a liaison to core fundraising teams across Michigan Medicine to integrate major gift strategies.

Coordinate involvement of appropriate faculty and staff in the gift solicitation process.

Conduct Michigan Medicine grateful patient solicitation follow‑up.

Special Giving Programs (20%):

Raise leadership annual gifts in collaboration with Office of Development team members.

Engage community‑based organizations to enhance fundraising programs.

Support team efforts around web‑based peer‑to‑peer fundraising.

Collaborate with third‑party fundraising initiatives.

Lead specific fundraising projects and other activities as assigned.

Project Management (10%):

Work independently to achieve goals using detail‑oriented and anticipatory instincts.

Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.

Develop strong relationships with internal and external constituencies and collaborate with colleagues.

Other (10%):

Serve as a model of collaboration in the development community, representing Michigan Medicine Development values.

Build a comprehensive understanding of Development priorities and craft persuasive cases for key programs and projects.

Complete other projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

At least two years of experience in annual giving, development, or a related field.

Excellent written and communication skills.

Availability for flexible hours, including occasional weekend and evening work.

Ability to travel regularly.

Reliable internet service.

Desired Qualifications

Development experience in a nonprofit or academic health system setting with a comprehensive development program.

Track record of successful fundraising results and closing leadership gifts in the $1,000–$25,000 range.

Business‑to‑business sales, public relations, or relevant professional experience.

Work Locations The onsite location is the 777 Building, providing free onsite parking. The role requires on‑site work three days per week with possible hybrid arrangements depending on needs.

Modes of Work Hybrid or remote work may be possible at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and may change according to business needs.

Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre‑employment drug testing on candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer. Screening is performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
