The City of Virginia Beach is hiring an
Operations Superintendent
to manage the street maintenance team within the Department of Public Works. This role plans, directs, and coordinates street and sidewalk maintenance operations, oversees staff and work plans, ensures safety compliance responds to citizen concerns, utilizes work management systems, and supports the annual budget process to maintain high-quality and efficient roadway operations.
The duties of the
Operations Superintendent
include, but are not limited to:
Plan, direct, and coordinate the maintenance and repair of all City streets and sidewalks, ensuring roadways are maintained in a quality manner.
Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Public Works staff.
Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints.
Enforce safety practices and procedures and guide subordinates to ensure a safe work environment.
Utilize a work management database system to track tasks and document work performed.
Participate, assist, and make recommendations in the annual budget process.
Understand oral and written instructions accurately to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on current workloads and department needs.

** Telework is not an option for this position.**
*This is an Alpha I and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, and snow), and/or in response to short–term department needs and/or City–wide emergencies.*
