Field Sales Manager – NYC/Brooklyn – Fine Wine & Spirits Retail
Empire Merchants, a world‑class distributor of fine wines and spirits, is seeking an experienced Field Sales Manager to lead and coach a high‑performing sales team across the NY Metro area. Position Summary Drive sales volume and distribution objectives for the company and its suppliers by managing and coaching a team of sales representatives to meet performance goals through effective planning, training, and execution.
Essential Position Results
Plan and conduct one‑on‑one meetings with each representative before each sales period, setting goals, defining target accounts, and reviewing performance.
Conduct weekly sales meetings, communicate objectives, identify opportunities, review performance, and guide team members in closing gaps.
Develop and monitor performance enhancement plans, maintain training files, conduct evaluations, and track 90‑day new hire progress.
Address skill deficiencies through customized coaching plans, tracking progress, and recording improvements.
Maintain strong customer orientation by building relationships, identifying opportunities, conducting business reviews, and opening new accounts.
Participate in interview and selection process with HR, source candidates, schedule interviews, and manage onboarding.
Manage supplier surveys, plan routes, pre‑survey accounts, conduct surveys, recap findings, and schedule field representatives.
Coordinate supplier ride‑withs in collaboration with Business Managers.
Resolve customer issues following administrative processes, escalating appropriately.
Complete all required training programs, including Sales Skills, WSET, Pocket Advantage, and Diver, and pass all required tests.
Stay current on industry knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional networks.
Protect customer confidence and maintain confidentiality.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment per procedures, rules, and regulations.
Contribute to team effort and accomplish related results as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee all sales representatives assigned to the Field Sales Manager’s team.
Minimum Qualifications
High‑school diploma or equivalent (required).
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent training and work experience (preferred).
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle (preferred).
Solicitor’s Permit required.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
Knowledge / Skills
Understanding of wine and spirits (required); WSET certification (I‑III) preferred.
Prior spirits and wine sales management experience preferred; experience as a sales representative for a large distributor preferred.
Result‑oriented professional with excellent verbal and written communication, diplomacy, and discretion.
Able to multitask, work independently or within a team, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
Proficient MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and various computer programs, including presentation software.
