Position:
Delinquent Tax Collector
Department: Gwinnett County Government
Overview Responsible for collecting delinquent ad valorem tax and fees from property owners. Duties include investigating the financial status of individuals and businesses, performing field investigations, seizing property, issuing citations, and monitoring bankruptcy notices, dismissals, hearings, and motions to ensure timely legal action and the protection of tax liens.
Essential Duties
Investigate and research individuals and businesses for the purpose of tax collection and code compliance.
Maintain and understand current laws related to codes and compliance.
Perform independent field investigations to collect taxes, post levy notices, seize property, and issue citations for code enforcement and complete reports detailing findings.
Research property information by reviewing plans, accessing databases, and contacting other departments.
Prepare monthly lien filings, affidavits, and cancellations for appropriate authorities.
Review all documentation, accounts, and notices for property tax sales and co‑conduct auctions; review documents and claims related to post‑tax sale as they relate to excess funds.
Perform other duties of a similar nature.
Grade B23(2)
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree; AND
One year of tax or collections related experience; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license from the state of residency.
Must be deputized as Ex-Officio Sheriff within 3 months of employment.
Background check required to include motor vehicle and criminal histories.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Real Estate, Business, and/or Bankruptcy law.
