Respiratory Therapist (RT)

to join our acute care healthcare team. This role is ideal for clinicians who excel in fast‑paced environments and are committed to providing high‑quality respiratory care to patients with a wide range of cardiopulmonary conditions. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in patient assessment, treatment, and recovery across multiple levels of care, including the Progressive Care Unit (PCU).

Position Overview The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and monitoring patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. This includes administering respiratory therapies, managing oxygen delivery systems, assisting with ventilator care, and responding to emergent respiratory needs. The RT will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver safe, effective, and evidence‑based care.

Patient Population & Workload Respiratory Therapists care for adult patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, post‑operative complications, cardiac‑related respiratory issues, and sepsis. RTs support patients across telemetry, step‑down, and critical care environments. Workload and patient assignments are based on acuity and departmental standards and may vary by shift. Collaboration with nursing staff is essential, particularly in areas where

patient ratios may be as high as 1:5

for nursing care, requiring strong interdisciplinary communication and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and reassessments

Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapy

Manage and monitor non‑invasive and invasive ventilation, including BiPAP and mechanical ventilators

Assist with airway management, including suctioning and emergency intubation support

Respond to rapid responses and code situations involving respiratory compromise

Monitor arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust therapies per protocol and provider orders

Accurately document patient care, treatments, and assessments using the

Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system

Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and treatment plans

Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development

Technology & Documentation This facility utilizes

Epic EMR

for documentation and care coordination. Respiratory Therapists are expected to chart all treatments, assessments, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner. Previous experience with Epic is preferred, but training is available.

Work Environment & Dress Code The respiratory care department functions within a collaborative, team‑oriented environment that prioritizes patient safety and clinical excellence. Respiratory Therapists are required to wear

blue scrub uniforms , maintaining a consistent and professional appearance across clinical units.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

Active

RRT or CRT

credential in good standing

Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist

BLS

certification required;

ACLS

preferred or required within a designated timeframe

Acute care hospital experience preferred

Strong assessment skills, attention to detail, and ability to respond effectively in emergent situations
