The City of Elkins is seeking an organized and dependable part-time Municipal Court Clerk to support the day-to-day operations of the Municipal Court. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of court records, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing professional, courteous service to the public and judicial partners.
The Municipal Court Clerk performs a wide range of clerical and administrative duties that support the court’s legal, financial, and compliance processes. We are looking for someone who brings attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential and time-served matters with professionalism and care.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares and maintains court dockets, records and case files in accordance with legal and city standards.
Schedules hearings and provides notification to defendants, jurors and witnesses
Prepares subpoenas, arrest warrants, and court forms as directed by the Judge
Administers oaths and processes bonds and appearance fees
Ensures accurate and timely data entry into court records system
Prepares reports for the State of West Virginia and the City’s Treasurer regarding court fines and fees
Coordinates with law enforcement, legal counsel, and other municipalities regarding court cases and dispositions
Supports the Judge during court proceedings, including preparing documents and recording decisions
Manages court correspondence, and filings
Monitors updates to municipal and state legislation impacting court operations
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of experience in court administration, legal or clerical roles
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and court records management systems
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures preferred
