Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide services and protection for College properties, interests, students, faculty, support staff & guests.
Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to traffic and parking, posting of notices, distributing tracts & pamphlets, assemblies of persons, and use of building & grounds.
Enforce applicable State statutes, City & County ordinances when required for the protection of College properties & people.
Assist other police agencies when requested and when enforcement duties would not remove an officer from the campus.
Take initial reports of vehicular accidents, thefts, disturbances, injuries, illnesses, assaults, batteries, deaths & other crimes; interview victims, witnesses & conduct investigations.
Provide basic first aid & patient care until advanced medical treatment is available per EMR guidelines.
Provide information, directions, lock/unlock buildings & assist motorists locked out of vehicles; render first aid, monitor, report & act in severe weather emergencies.
Direct vehicular traffic on & off campus when necessary; provide protective escorts and restrain disturbed persons when required.
Conduct visible patrols on campus and report suspicious activities.
Make arrests, conduct station adjustments and qualify at department range qualification shoots.
Adhere to department & college rules, regulations, policies and procedures; perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB). AA and/or BS Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
Experience: Must be a sworn Illinois certified police officer with good standing in the 365 days prior to hiring. 1 to 5 years of law enforcement experience preferred; experience in a college campus environment preferred.
Training: Basic Law Enforcement Academy certification. Emergency Medical Responder training and certification required. Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Communications training required.
Physical & Personal Requirements: Minimum age 21 years. Good driving record with the Illinois Secretary of State (or other states). Must pass physical, drug screen, and psychological examination at College expense.
Working Conditions: Shift work covering a 24‑hour, 7‑day week schedule with rotations; overtime may be required on short notice. Exposure to weather conditions year‑round; use of firearms, squad car, radio, first‑aid equipment, and other routine police equipment.
Hiring Range: Per contract, up to step 3 on the wage scale.
