Senior Cook — NYC Administration for Children’s Services Salary:

$44,777.00 – $50,598.00

Overview Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well‑being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community‑based supports, foster care services, and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout the agency to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their missions. The Division of Administration works collaboratively with many program areas offering internal resources and support necessary to function efficiently and effectively. The Division employs approximately 490 public employees and provides services in building maintenance, occupational safety and health, operational support, security, transportation, and print production. The Division also supports the Division of Youth and Family Justice via nutrition and food services, construction, and facilities management for its two 24/7 Secure Detention facilities – Crossroads Juvenile Center (Brooklyn) and Horizon Juvenile Center (Bronx).

The Food and Nutrition Services Unit manages a food services budget of $5 M for FY 2024. It is responsible for the preparation and service of food to children and youth in the care of ACS. The full‑served kitchens serve three meals and snacks to youth housed at the Crossroads and Horizon Secure Juvenile Detention Centers and the Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center (NSCC) congregate facility. The Food and Nutrition Unit partners with children, youth, and care providers to address behavior issues related to food and develops and designs specialized menus to accommodate food allergies, medical, religious, and cultural dietary restrictions. The Unit also distributes meal cards to youth at the NSCC congregate facility and maintains operations of the vending machines throughout the Agency. It oversees Light Refreshment and Modest Meal Requests for staff and youth‑centered events throughout the year and ensures the requests comply with New York City Comptroller’s Directive 6.
