Grants Writer (Part-Time)

Pay Rate: 20.29 per hour

About the Company

Our client, a large public higher education system based in Houston, Texas, is seeking a Part Time Grants Writer to support system level grant reporting and compliance efforts.


About the Role

This temporary role is ideal for a detail-oriented writer with strong analytical skills and experience translating data into clear, compliance focused narratives for state or federal grants.


Responsibilities

  • Collect, review, and synthesize program, enrollment, labor market, and performance data required for grant reporting.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership, faculty, workforce programs, and institutional reporting teams to gather supporting documentation and verify data accuracy.
  • Draft, edit, and format narrative components of grant reports to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with federal and state guidelines.
  • Prepare summaries, charts, tables, and supporting materials that explain findings, trends, and recommendations.
  • Maintain tracking systems for data submissions, documentation, and reporting deadlines.
  • Ensure all submitted reports meet standards for accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Communicate outstanding data needs, errors, or follow up items to stakeholders.
  • Prepare internal briefing materials and presentations for leadership review.
  • Support cross campus coordination and assist with training or guidance related to the data collection process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support grant compliance and institutional initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two to three years of professional writing experience including grants, reports, technical documents, research summaries, or academic writing.
  • Experience with data interpretation including tables, charts, and trend analysis.
  • Familiarity with compliance-based evidence driven writing.


Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and writing skills with the ability to translate data into clear and concise narrative summaries.
  • Knowledge of grant reporting processes with preference for Perkins V or similar state or federal compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to interpret institutional data, workforce labor market information, and enrollment trends.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in written work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when coordinating with multiple departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word and data management tools.
  • Ability to work under deadlines, manage multiple reporting tasks, and maintain documentation for audit purposes.


This is a contract role beginning January 26, 2026, and ending March 27, 2026.
