Benefits Specialist

We are looking for reliable, detail-oriented individuals to support the administration of public employee benefit programs. Experience in benefits administration, insurance, or government/state work is highly preferred but not required. Candidates who succeed in this role tend to be comfortable learning complex programs, working accurately with sensitive data, and communicating clearly with a wide range of stakeholders.
What You’ll Do As a Benefit Specialist, you’ll support operational staff and managers in member and employer services tied to employee benefit programs. This includes learning detailed program rules, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure benefits are administered correctly and consistently.
Initial assignments will focus on benefits administration technology modernization projects, including research and remediation of data issues during system conversions. Over time, you may also support day‑to‑day operations and special initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Provide operational support for member and employer services related to public employee benefit programs
Learn and apply complex eligibility, enrollment, and benefit distribution requirements
Maintain and update highly sensitive member demographic and benefit account data
Translate complex information into clear, easy-to-understand formats for different audiences
Support technology modernization efforts, including data research and cleanup during conversions
Assist with operational tasks such as processing retirement benefit estimates
Support customer service functions, including member contact center calls and outreach initiatives
Participate in special projects such as locating lost members or improving customer experience efforts
What You’ll Bring
Benefits administration, insurance, or public sector/state experience is highly preferred, but not required
Ability to understand, analyze, and clearly explain complex information
Strong attention to detail and comfort working with large data sets
Analytical, organized, and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment
Proven customer service experience and a collaborative, team‑oriented approach
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
