Kitchen Assistants Wanted
Mackinaw Old Country Market dba Mackinaw Bakery & Caf is seeking two (2) Kitchen Assistants to work at 110 Langlade St. Mackinaw City, MI 49701. The position is full-time and seasonal during the dates April 1, 2026 -- November 1, 2026. The Kitchen Assistant will be working in a bakery/deli cafeteria and will assist with making salads and sandwiches from scratch using pre-purchased meats by following established recipes. They will also assist with rolling dough, frying donuts, mixing ingredients for breakfast burritos and wrapping them, glazing donuts, wrapping donuts, preparing ingredients for pastries, building breakfast and lunch sandwiches using pre-package meats, & packaging sandwiches. The Kitchen Assistant will use kitchen knives, microwaves, fryers, toasters, handheld potato peelers and a balancing scale. All foods are made from scratch and assembled in house except for the egg patties which are purchased frozen and the employee will use an oven to warm. The Kitchen Staff will package food in paper bags and cardboard boxes for take out orders or place food on paper plates and then place on a tray for the 'runners' to take to the dine in guests. The duties of the Kitchen Staff are taking orders, making sandwiches or salads, bagging and pricing products, reading and following recipes, frying foods, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes and silverware; storing food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage; portioning and wrapping food or placing it directly on plates for service to patrons; taking and recording the temperature of food and food storage areas such as refrigerators and freezers; preparing a variety of foods, such as meats, vegetables, or desserts, according to customers' orders; packaging take-out foods or serving food to customers, removing trash as needed, receiving and storing food supplies, and utensils in the refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas; informing designated personnel when equipment is not working properly and when food supplies are getting low. Employees will work Monday-Sunday an average of 35 hrs/wk. Must be able to work up to 7 hours per shift within the hours of 6:00 am to 2:00 pm any day of the week, days off rotate, shifts vary. No minimum education is required. On-the-job training is available. The employer will provide workers with all the tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job at no charge. The employer will not provide daily transportation to and from the workplace. The wage is $13.55 per hour. All deductions will be made from paychecks that are required by law. No other deductions will be made unless agreed upon. Overtime is not available. Wages will be paid weekly on Monday, and the employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. This posting is being made in connection with an application for H-2B workers. The employer will reimburse the H-2B worker in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the H-2B worker. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer will reimburse the worker for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, employer will provide or pay for worker's reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distance involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $16.28 per day during travel.
