The Township of Maplewood is seeking a Part-Time Age-Friendly Community Coordinator.

The coordinator will perform a wide range of community outreach, policy planning and implementation, program design and assessment, and management functions to advance the goal of being an age-friendly community. The coordinator will work to create a sense of belonging by senior residents in the town and effectively provide them with valued resources, and information. The coordinator will work in the Department of Health, and will have close collaboration with the Township’s Department of Community Services and Administration, as well as working with age-friendly counterparts in our sister township, South Orange, to ensure collaboration of policies, services, accommodations and programs for senior residents in both townships. The part-time hours shall be 15 hours per week.

Who We’re Looking For

a strong and energetic advocate for older adults;

familiar with the spectrum of aging, from vibrant to at-risk populations;

able to work with a high degree of self-direction;

able to communicate effectively in written and oral form; and

able to motivate, inspire and manage partnerships and relationships with residents, partner organizations and institutions, and the municipality.

Key Responsibilities Facilitate and manage internal and external partnerships:

Work collaboratively with the South Orange age-friendly coordinator to facilitate policies, services, accommodations and programs to senior residents in both towns

Provide support to the Township’s Senior Advisory Committee

Share regular, ongoing updates to the Health Officer, Senior Advisory Committees and municipal leaders.

Develop strategies with municipal departments to promote and sensitize Municipal Employees to the needs of older adults.

Collaborate with established and new age-friendly communities to provide leadership, support growth, and share experiences.

Work with civic associations, public and private educational agencies, and nonprofit organizations to increase sensitivity and inclusion of age family practices and policies.

Maintain communication and coordination between the municipality and other public agencies.

Age-Friendly Program and Policy Development

Identify what works and what needs improvement through program monitoring.

Evaluate and measure progress; solicit input for suggested policy changes.

Create public awareness of Maplewood’s age-friendly initiative and the need to support an age friendly livability character in the municipality, including the adoption of relative public policies and practices, zoning regulations and ordinances.

Increase and improve the access of programs and services for older adults, including accommodations at community events and programs, and appropriate communication of said programs, services and accommodations to the local senior population.

Project Management

Maintain and continue progress as an AARP livable community, as detailed under the WHO Domains of Healthy Aging.

Complete tasks and submit reports and other documents to seek and maintain the age-friendly designation by outside organizations.

Work with age-friendly advocacy organizations to develop strategy and tools to support growth and sustainability of statewide and local age-friendly designations.

Identify and pursue funding opportunities from private and public grants, corporate and business sponsorships, and individual donors.

Communications

Utilize and maintain multiple public communication tools, including but not limited to a website, email list, postal mailing list, social media, and print media.

Design and write content for communications.

Maintain a working relationship with the media and editors of the internal municipal newsletters, including preparing press releases and writing stories and articles.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: social work, public health, community organizing, sociology, psychology or related fields.

Driver’s license that is valid in New Jersey.

Availability to work some weekends and evenings.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Social media competency with Facebook and Instagram.

Experience Requirements

Working with older adults in a social work, public health, community center, school or medical setting.

Leading, managing and inspiring diverse teams of volunteers.

Planning and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Seeking and identifying funding sources, including grants and fundraising events.

Pay range: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Maplewood is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
