The Afterwords Wine Bar is a familiar neighborhood coffee house where patrons can enjoy fresh baked pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts, and of course fresh brewed coffee and espresso. Situated on Bestor Plaza, above the Chautauqua Bookstore, with indoor and outdoor seating. Afterwords Wine Bar is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily during the summer season.
About Your Compensation $10.70/hour plus tipped earnings. Employees who are scheduled for 20%+ of their shift in non‑tipped capacity, attend required events like orientation or training, or do not average minimum wage with their tipped income each week will be paid a minimum wage of $16.00/hour.
About Your Work Day
Bartender knowledge of beer, wine, and liquor.
Consistently prepare mixed drinks according to Athenaeum hotel standards.
Receive and prepare bar beverage orders from service staff.
Quickly service guests at fast‑paced events bars.
Clean glasses and utensils, bar area.
Restock beer, wine, and glasses as necessary.
Track all orders through POS System and report daily sales.
Track complimentary, unwanted, or lost beverages.
Know and understand NYS liquor laws.
All other duties as assigned.
About the Referral Program Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program offers a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90‑days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions working less than 6 months, the new candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days from the first physical date of work until the closing date of the season (last Sunday in August).
About Your Schedule Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part‑time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre‑season) and beyond season (post‑season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.
Typically work a six or eight‑hour shift with a start time that varies between 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About Living on the Grounds No employer‑provided housing is available for this position, including onsite and off‑grounds. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.

Qualifications
1–3 years experienced bartender.
Strong knowledge and passion for craft cocktails, beer, and wine.
Positive, self‑starter attitude.
Ability to make an impact and achieve goal completion.
Education and certifications: Alcohol Beverage Control license (state‑specific).
