Blueprint‑to‑Part Precision Machinist
role at
General Machine
Base pay range $30.00/hr - $38.00/hr
Turn Drawings into Perfect Parts at General Machine. Imagine this: It’s your first week at General Machine in Freeburg, IL. You review a challenging print, choose tooling for a CNC lathe, set your workholding, and dial in offsets. After the first article, you measure with calipers and micrometers, make a small adjustment, and watch the second piece hit spec. You log your results, clean your station, and huddle with an engineer to shave seconds off the cycle time. That’s a typical win here.
About The Role We’re a growing machine shop and fabricator serving demanding customers. We need a machinist who can set up and operate CNC and/or manual equipment to produce precision components, read and act on blueprints, and uphold our quality standards.
What You’ll Do
Set up, operate, and adjust CNC and/or manual mills and lathes to produce precision parts.
Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining steps.
Inspect finished parts with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related tools to confirm tolerances.
Monitor machine performance, adjusting as needed to maintain quality and consistency.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues to keep production on track.
Collaborate with engineers and programmers to improve processes and efficiency.
Maintain an orderly, safe work area and follow all safety protocols.
Complete production documentation and maintain accurate job records.
What You’ll Need
Experience in machining (CNC and/or manual).
Ability to set up and run CNC mills, lathes, and/or manual machines.
Exposure to G‑code is a plus, not a requirement.
Competence with precision measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to problem‑solving.
High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Comfort working both independently and as part of a fast‑paced team.
Why You’ll Thrive Here General Machine focuses on quality and exceeding customer expectations. If that resonates with you—and you enjoy turning blueprints into reality—we invite you to apply.
