This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

Under close supervision, performs a variety of support duties for the Fleet Management Division, including parts pick-up and delivery, vehicle and equipment cleaning, assisting with vehicle delivery and transfers, and conducting routine cycle counts and inventory support; this position has department specific responsibilities; employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing on a random basis or for reasonable suspicion.

Responsible for picking up and delivering vehicles, equipment parts, materials, and supplies as directed; conducts cycle counts and keeps an accurate inventory of parts on hand; serves as a backup to the Parts Specialist and Fleet Coordinator; delivers and transfers County vehicles and equipment between departments/offices or vendor locations; washes, cleans, and prepares vehicles for delivery or maintenance as assigned; maintains vehicle records in the Fleet Information Management System (FIMS); generate and prepare reports for parts or fleet data as requested from FIMS or Telematics software; imports fuel records into the FIMS; inputs and retrieves all types of data on vehicle parts, supplies, equipment, and tools using automated fleet information and inventory control systems; verifies that parts and materials received are as ordered; operates County vehicles and equipment safely and in compliance with all regulations; reports vehicle or equipment damage, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to supervisors; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of County policies and procedures; knowledge of basic automotive parts, materials, and equipment handling; of safety rules and practices, OSHA safety guidelines, First Aid and CPR; of basic inventory accountability and control procedures; of the safe handling, disposal and storage of hazardous materials.

Skill in interpreting technical manuals and related diagrams; computerized programs for vehicle maintenance and inventory tracking; maintaining a clean and organized work environment; following written and verbal instructions.

Ability to work in varied extreme weather conditions; exposed to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease and hazardous materials; lift 25-50 pounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and vendors; stand and bend (30%) to walk and stoop (20%).

Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, and crouching; generally, the job requires 30% bending, 20% walking, 20% stooping and 30% standing; work is subject to exposure to varying weather conditions and exposure to exhaust and chemical fumes, oil, grease and hazardous materials; involves lifting of 25-50 pounds.

Experience and Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND six months of recent experience in the automotive or equipment industry; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License. Requires successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug test; Public Works Department will provide tools necessary to perform duties of Fleet Specialist.
