We currently have an opening for the position of
Miscellaneous Metals Estimator . This is a mid‑level position which involves the following tasks:
Responsibilities
Reviewing project specifications and other bid documents
Reading and interpreting structural and architectural drawings
Performing material take‑offs of stairs, railings, and other miscellaneous metal items
Accurately quantifying material costs, detailing hours, fabrication shop hours, field labor/equipment, and all other costs within scope of work based on company standards
Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
Communicating project‑related information with co‑workers, general contractor, and design team
Generating RFIs/asking questions when information in bid documents is missing or unclear, and following up to ensure answers are received
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the steel industry, with at least 5 years of miscellaneous metals estimating experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a construction related field preferred, but not required
Computer skills – familiarity with Bluebeam, MS Excel, and MS Word
Communication/Documentation – Ability to clearly and properly communicate both verbally and in writing and to document all conversations
Reading Comprehension – Able to read and fully understand project documents: contract drawings, specifications, etc.
Critical Thinking/Judgment – Able to work through problems and propose logical solutions
Time Management – Able to meet all project deadlines and respond to others in a timely fashion
Active Listening – Give full attention to people so that everything they are saying is understood and appropriate questions can be asked
