Overview

The City of Basehor, Kansas is currently recruiting qualified, certified law enforcement officers to serve as a Police Captain within the Basehor Police Department. Basehor is a growing city in the southeast corner of Leavenworth County and is uniquely positioned with excellent access to the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The City of Basehor is experiencing continued growth driven by multiple planned and ongoing development projects, creating an opportunity for experienced law enforcement leaders to help guide the department through its next phase of expansion. The Basehor Police Department has an authorized strength of 16 full-time officers and is seeking a highly experienced command-level officer to serve as Patrol Commander. The Captain is a senior command staff position that reports directly to the Chief of Police and Major and is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of the Patrol Division. Responsibilities

Command and supervision of patrol operations, personnel, and resources Operational decision-making related to staffing, deployment, and service delivery Recommending personnel assignments, promotions, training needs, and discipline Ensuring compliance with department policies, procedures, and professional standards Participating in administrative planning, policy development, and strategic initiatives Reviewing reports, use-of-force incidents, pursuits, and other critical events Acting as a liaison between command staff and line-level personnel Representing the department in meetings, community events, and interagency coordination Assuming command authority in the absence of the Major or Chief, as directed Minimum Qualifications

21 years of age or older Be a certified law enforcement officer eligible for certification in the State of Kansas Possess a minimum of 10 years of full-time law enforcement experience, including progressive supervisory experience Demonstrate advanced knowledge of patrol operations, supervision, discipline, and personnel management Possess strong decision-making, leadership, and communication skills Have working knowledge of applicable laws, administrative procedures, labor practices, and accreditation or best practices A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Salary and Benefits
