Key Responsibilities
Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
Perform maintenance, repair, and modification of existing tooling.
Operate and set up a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
Conduct precision measurements using various metrology equipment to ensure quality and accuracy.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance and functionality.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.
Recommended Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent formal training.
Proven experience operating a variety of manual and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDM).
Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, and optical comparators.
Solid understanding of various metal properties, tooling materials, heat treatment processes, and their application in tool manufacturing.
Bonus Qualifications
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM operation, laser scanners).
TIG/MIG welding experience for tool repair and modification.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or 5S methodology.
