Monday – Friday, full-time (40 hours per week), may require overnight travel Description of Work

A successful candidate shall have journeyman level experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, equipment, and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received from a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties. The candidate is expected to train and supervise incarcerated offenders within the State prison environment. Key Responsibilities

Work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics for HVAC systems Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and machinery Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems Train and supervise incarcerated offenders as part of the agency’s rehabilitation program Qualifications

Minimum education:

high school or GED diploma and three years of progressive experience in installation, maintenance, or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution, and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required certification:

current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F. Note to Current State Employees

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity, which may result in a pay increase.
