$59,581 - $70,000 commensurate with experience.
Job Summary The VLC Outreach Specialist is a temporary position dedicated to developing and finetuning a plan to extend VLC’s legal services to South Carolina veterans and families living in rural communities, for VLC to execute moving forward. The Outreach Specialist will use available access to justice data to identify rural areas in the state for VLC to provide services, will establish relationships with service providers and other stakeholders in the area on behalf of VLC, and will identify how VLC can best serve the area through a mix of community education, advice and counsel, and direct representation. The Outreach Specialist will develop community education curricula and advice and counsel materials, will plan and staff outreach events in rural communities, and will take on representation of a limited number of veterans benefits appeals and other civil legal matters for rural veterans or family members in consultation with the Faculty Director. The Outreach Specialist works under the supervision of the VLC Faculty Director, and collaborates with the VLC Staff Attorney and paralegal, as well as students and other staff.
Responsibilities
Conduct outreach to and build relationships in rural communities for the purpose of expanding the reach of VLC’s legal services.
Percentage of Time:
20%
Develop and deliver community education curricula and advice and counsel materials for rural South Carolina veterans and families.
Percentage of Time:
30%
Handle legal representation, including litigation and administrative legal services, for VLC client cases.
Percentage of Time:
30%
Diligently enter all time, activities, and for cases and matters in clinics’ case management system.
Percentage of Time:
5%
Collaborate effectively with clinic faculty, paralegals, staff, and students.
Percentage of Time:
10%
Provide legal support services for the VLC, including intake and case management services, as needed.
Other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications Juris Doctorate degree and related legal experience. Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar.
