Job Overview Newcastle Hospitals Charity and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation are entering one of the most exciting and ambitious phases in our history. Together with Newcastle Hospitals, we are building a world‑leading facility, The Sir Bobby Robson Institute, which will transform cancer research and improve the lives of patients across the Northeast and beyond.
Based next to the Northern Centre for Cancer Care at the Freeman Hospital, this incredible new facility will bring together the current Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre and the hospital’s oncology and haematology research teams, creating a united hub for innovation, clinical trials, and hope.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, over £20 million has already been raised and a major fundraising campaign now underway to secure the final funds needed to complete the project and turn the vision into reality.
To help drive this transformative work, we are expanding our team with a fixed‑term Digital Communications Officer playing a vital part in bringing the Sir Bobby Robson Institute to life.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
This role will support our communications and fundraising teams to develop digital content, with the aim of engaging supporters, growing our supporter base and raising funds.
You’ll support the development of a digital strategy to support our fundraising team, this will include creating effective email communications, web copy and digital acquisition across our social media channels. You will also work with the wider team to explore and test new channels and the use of digital platforms to raise funds.
As a key member of our communications team, you will support with all areas of the digital fundraising strategy.
You will work with colleagues to create digital campaigns for new and existing fundraising priorities including email, SMS campaigns, donor and supporter journeys and automation.
Write and edit content for all digital channels with a clear call to action and an awareness of how to engage different audiences.
Support the individual giving lead and data insights manager to build queries for supporter segmentation and retargeting.
Monitor and manage the Charity website and social media channels on a daily basis.
Contribute to the development and delivery of social media strategies and platforms.
Contribute to the development of supporter journeys and user experience.
Work as part of the communication team to identify and maximise opportunities to support fundraising opportunities.
Compile a monthly report of digital activity including social media activity and Google Analytics.
Proactively identify opportunities to promote the work of Newcastle Hospitals Charity through owned and earned channels, including, social media and partner digital communications routes.
Ensuring compliance with Newcastle Hospital Charity branding requirements as well as industry standards and guidelines.
Person specification Qualifications & Education Essential criteria
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of communications, digital fundraising, and/or digital marketing communications techniques, approaches, and procedures: acquired through training to relevant degree level or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience Essential criteria
Previous digital communications experience
Experience using digital platforms (social media, web, email) and their management and analysis tools (Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, MailChimp, WordPress)
Experience developing organic and paid digital campaigns
Experience writing and editing on‑brand content for digital channels with a clear call to action and an awareness of how to engage different audiences.
Desirable criteria
Some knowledge of digital packages such as Photoshop or Canva
Knowledge of best practice in digital communications to support fundraising and awareness raising.
Skills & Abilities Essential criteria
Strong IT skills and effective use of MS Office and other business software packages
Excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills
Able to prioritise workload and to deal with competing demands at short notice
Able to work without direct supervision.
