G.A. West's sister company, Legacy Equipment is currently seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and heavy‑duty vehicles. This position is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment.
Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brake systems, suspension, steering, and hydraulic systems.
Conduct regular maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune‑ups.
Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical bulletins to troubleshoot and repair complex issues.
Maintain accurate records of all work performed and parts used.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks meet safety and quality standards.
Perform inspections to identify wear and damage and recommend corrective actions.
Keep work areas clean and organized and comply with safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (Technical or vocational training preferred)
2+ years of experience working on diesel engines or heavy equipment
Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electronic systems
ASE Diesel Certifications or equivalent are a plus
Valid driver’s license
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics
Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, bend, squat, and stand for long periods
Preferred Skills:
Experience with heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, buses, or construction equipment
Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance inspections
Welding and fabrication skills a plus
Computer literacy for diagnostic software and repair documentation
Strong communication and time‑management skills
