Job Summary The Paving Superintendent will be responsible for supervising crews, coordinating schedules, ensuring safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques, equipment, and materials, with a proven track record of leadership in road, highway, or site development projects.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
Supervise and manage daily paving operations including labor, equipment, and materials.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure smooth execution of work.
Plan and schedule paving activities to meet project deadlines and milestones.
Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with all project specifications, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Conduct daily site inspections and toolbox talks to enforce safety protocols and identify potential risks.
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and job orders.
Track production rates and report progress, challenges, and delays to senior management.
Ensure optimal equipment utilization and coordinate with the maintenance team for repairs or servicing.
Train and mentor crew members, promoting teamwork and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and labor hours.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on asphalt paving.
3+ years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
Strong knowledge of paving equipment (pavers, rollers, milling machines, etc.) and asphalt mix designs.
Proficient in reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Solid understanding of DOT standards, local regulations, and safety practices.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast‑paced, outdoor construction environment.
Proficiency in construction management software is a plus.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, stand; Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
