Under the direction of the department head, lead clerk and/or manager, the Deli Clerk assists customers with requests and questions. Provides samples of products to customers. Prepares, prices, stocks, and inventories products. Proactively maintains the appearance of the Deli department.
Responsibilities:
Greets customers and assists with requests and special orders. Accurately prepares orders for customers, including food items such as sandwiches. Provides personalized service and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and participate in strenuous work. Provides friendly and courteous service, maintains knowledge of various products, answers customer inquiries, and conducts suggestive selling. Stays informed of store specials and promotions to better service customers. Receives, unpacks, and stores deli products, ensuring freshness by monitoring code dates and accurately recording spoilage. Prepares deli meats and cheeses, assorted products for party platters, and maintains the steam table. Proactively maintains the appearance of the Deli Department, ensuring displays are clean and well-stocked. Pursues professional development opportunities and contributes to corporate goals. Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned. Essential Requirements: Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be able to read and write at a high school competency level. Work Experience: Prior customer service and/or food handling experience. Work Hours: Be available to work various days and shifts. Some overtime hours may be required. Other Requirements: Proven ability to converse in English. Ability to read and comprehend department guidelines and procedures. Ability to read and understand recipes and measuring quantities. Must be at least 18 years of age upon employment. Must be able to visually recognize, hear, acknowledge and converse with a supervisor, co-worker, or customer. Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
