Job Description Tessera is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic/EVT II to maintain and repair a wide range of heavy machinery and emergency service vehicles. In this role, you will diagnose malfunctions, rebuild engines and power systems, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. This position requires advanced technical expertise, welding and fabrication skills, and a higher level of certification than Heavy Mechanic Level I.
Typical Duties
Perform maintenance on wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineer equipment, power generation, and material handling equipment.
Accomplish minor repairs and perform services as outlined in established technical manuals.
Inspect and repair brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during annual services.
Perform major repair jobs by disassembling, cleaning parts, removing components, and installing assemblies.
Maintain operational vehicle maintenance schedules.
Generate reports – schedules, training, attendance, evaluations, employee documentation, time keeping, and accident reports.
Train employees on job tasks and assignments.
Monitor employee performance to ensure efficient use of time and performance of work tasks.
Maintain professionalism in appearance and demeanor.
Coach, mentor, and resolve employee concerns respectfully.
Record daily personnel attendance and track absences and tardiness.
Position may be subject to call‑back availability based on operational needs.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
5-8 years of experience as an automotive mechanic or closely related field.
A combination of education and experience can be considered.
Certifications supporting EVT Level II Fire Apparatus and ARFF Vehicle Technician, including ASE (T-2 thru T-7) and EVT (F-1 thru F-4 and A-1 thru A-2).
Knowledgeable in maintenance of military vehicles and equipment.
Ability to read, understand, and follow technical manuals for proper diagnosis and repair.
Ability to read and troubleshoot repairs on brakes, suspensions, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Must reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time.
Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
Must persevere under pressure for extended periods.
Requirements
A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or an acceptable alternative (e.g., U.S. passport or military ID) in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
