Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic Level 1

Pay Rate: $33.55/hr with $0.40 shift differential for nights.

Category/Shift: Hourly Full-Time (6:00pm-6:00am, 2 on, 2 off, 3 on 24‑7 schedule)

The Job You Will Perform

Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.

Repair or replace defective parts and install special functional and structural parts in devices.

Lubricate and clean parts.

Start devices to test their performance.

Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

Move, position, and replace heavy equipment with mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls.

Push toolbox to work areas.

Carry, lift, and transport parts to and from work locations and the maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means.

Clean work area, tools, and equipment.

Safety and Equipment Use

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory and includes cut‑resistant and heat‑resistant gloves and sleeves, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, bump caps, ear plugs, and steel‑toed shoes.

Use hand tools ranging from small screwdrivers to large pipe wrenches requiring fine dexterity and physical force.

Electrical and Mechanical Systems

Plant startup and shutdown tasks, energizing equipment, and ensuring proper operation.

Clean machines to prepare for painting, oiling, and greasing machinery.

Install power supply wiring and conduit for new machines and equipment, including conveyors and programmable controllers.

Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment and connect cables and wires between machines.

Diagnose and repair electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors, relays, switches, and printed circuit boards.

Replace faulty electrical components on machines such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices.

Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, including printed circuit boards.

Replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors.

Plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.

Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

Administrative and Communication Duties

Utilize a computer system for work order entry and tracking completion status.

Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.

Keep supervisors informed of any problems or unusual situations.

Other duties may be assigned by supervision.
