Our client, a major Oil and Gas client, is looking for a Construction Superintendent to join their team on a 1-year contract in Carlsbad, NM.
Location: Carlsbad, NM | Salary: $85,000.00-$120,000.00
Main Functions Responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the day‑to‑day field operations for assigned crafts and subcontractors. A typical scope of responsibility would be Field Superintendent or Area Superintendent, with a strong focus on utility and transmission line construction activities.
Tasks And Responsibilities
Understand and execute assigned construction tasks within the project scope, with emphasis on 115kV transmission line construction
Oversee daily contractor construction activities including direct-embed and/or drilled pier foundations
Direct and monitor conductor installation activities, including single-phase and bundled conductor pulling
Coordinate and oversee conductor pulling activities over County and State roadways, ensuring compliance with permits and safety requirements
Perform Quality Assurance (QA) checks on construction installations to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices
Conduct walk-downs and ride-downs of transmission lines to identify deficiencies and generate punch list items
Verify proper structure grounding and grounding system installation
Interpret and validate construction drawings, plans, and specifications
Successfully execute projects within contracted schedule and budget
Work with multi-discipline engineering teams to monitor and control scope, schedule, and budget
Manage field crews and oversee maintenance and operation of construction and earthwork equipment
Serve as the interface between the work face and the Construction Site Manager or Construction Site Lead
Respond to field and client information requests in a timely and professional manner
Champion and enforce Worker Safety Programs, including electrical safety standards
Ensure safe work practices by actively intervening when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed
Coordinate and request Hot Line Holds with external utility companies (e.g., Xcel Energy) and internal utility stakeholders
Support contractor planning and execution activities through effective communication and field leadership
Serve as a member of the Project Team (PT) when assigned
Oversee site contractor fabrication, construction, and hookup activities during the Execution Phase
Skills And Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in field construction planning, execution, and completions
Prior utility or transmission line construction experience strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of high-voltage transmission systems (115kV or higher)
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements
Thorough understanding of Minimum Approach Distances (MAD), proper placement of ground sets, PPE requirements, and PPE inspection protocols
Proven ability to perform QA/QC inspections related to transmission line construction
Past Construction Superintendent experience on major capital projects
Familiarity with Construction Materials Testing procedures and ASTM standards
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide contractors and step in when safety concerns arise
Enthusiastic, self-starter with a strong safety mindset and commitment to operational excellence
Willingness to travel domestically and/or overseas to project sites
