The Eugene Police Department (EPD) is a progressive, professional law‑enforcement agency that serves the city of Eugene, Oregon. In fulfillment of the public trust, EPD works in partnership with our community to promote safety and security, enforce laws, prevent crimes, and safeguard the constitutional rights of all people.

Beginning on January 6, 2026, EPD is seeking new candidates to join our team. Invitations to the testing phase of the recruitment process will be sent on a rolling basis to applicants with a complete application who qualify. Submit your application early to receive an early invitation, a paid practice test, a testing study guide, and the opportunity to participate in an ORPAT practice session.

Responsibilities

Serve as a first responder to incidents and act as the direct link between the department and the public.

Respond to, investigate, and assess incident scenes; enforce laws and ordinances.

Patrol assigned areas, make arrests, preserve crime‑scene evidence, and summarize events in report format.

Perform preventative community policing for diverse neighborhoods.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 21 years of age by July 15, 2026.

No felony convictions. No Class A misdemeanor convictions within 24 months of application.

Must be able to work various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, with a current 4/10 work schedule for patrol teams.

Must meet state requirements for vision, hearing, and basic certification as a law‑enforcement officer by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).

Education High school diploma or GED.

Experience At least two years of work experience, college coursework, or military experience.

License and Certification

A valid Oregon driver’s license, or proof of obtaining one by the date of hire.

Must pass a driving‑records check and maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard.

CPR certification within twelve months of appointment.

Background Must pass a police background investigation. See Oregon Administrative Rule 259‑008‑0015 for required documents.

Physical and Medical

Must pass a physical assessment and drug test.

Drug screen, hearing test, and visual acuity test required by DPSST.

Psychological evaluation and medical exam required between May 21 and May 29 2026.

Selection Process

ORPAT practice session – Saturday, February 7, 2026 (optional). Apply by February 5, 2026.

Written test and ORPAT – Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Interviews – March 8–10, 2026 (out‑of‑state applicants may interview on March 8).

Full background completion – by May 5, 2026.

Chief interview – May 14, 2026.

Psychological evaluation and medical exam – May 21–29, 2026.

Projected date of hire – June 29, 2026.

Salary and Benefits Entry‑level Police Officers start at Step 1 with an annual salary of $78,187.20. Salary steps increase up to Step 6 ($99,673.60). Officers can earn up to 15 % premium pay for education and certification after three years of employment. Bilingual pay may add 5 % of base salary for fluency in an eligible language (e.g., Spanish or American Sign Language). Shift differential may add up to 5 %.

Work Location, Schedule & Union Representation Location: 300 Country Club Rd., Eugene, OR. Must reside within 45 minutes of Eugene, OR.
