Merchandising Assistants provide diversified support for buyers in a dynamic and fast‑paced work environment. They possess strong communication skills and act as liaisons between Buyers, internal partners, and suppliers. Merchandising Assistants support the efficient operation of their departments and categories, handling key end‑to‑end business processes such as Supplier Set‑Up, SKU Creation, PO Creation, Advertising, Billing, and Customer Support. The role is a stepping stone to exempt positions within Family Dollar. Principal Duties & Responsibilities
1. Cultivate and maintain relationships with Buyers, MA team, and cross‑functional partners. Attend team and cross‑functional meetings, preparing documentation and reports to support the agenda. Actively contribute by sharing insights, providing updates, capturing notes and actions, and managing next steps. 2. Manage Supplier, SKU, and PO creation and maintenance processes. Supplier:
Act as liaison between Data Management, Suppliers, Private Brands, and THT; vet required paperwork for accuracy; proactively communicate with suppliers and provide updates. SKU:
Follow up on online reviews and seasonal buys; maintain documentation in trackers; communicate regularly with suppliers for product information, pricing, case pack, UDA, UPC updates; ensure items have >90% accurate attribute ratings; collaborate with Data Management and managers to prioritize setup. PO:
Create purchase orders accurately and timely for multiple departments; follow up on late orders and shipments; complete PO modifications (delivery extensions, cancellations, cost & retail changes). 3. Manage sample and ticket processes. Handle VMR samples; review and proof product samples before shipment; ensure compliance with Family Dollar Guidelines. Manage disposition of rejected samples. Initiate ticket requests to suppliers, verify ticket scans, and validate SKU information before shipping to stores. 4. Manage the marketing projection tool - DemandTec. Partner with Buyers and Suppliers for accurate documentation. Enter pricing, deals, projections, scan allowances, and co‑op. Maintain key tracking documents used in monthly financial roll‑ups. 5. Resolve customer complaints, issues, and special requests. Partner with suppliers, Private Brands, and Global Sourcing on complaints and special requests. Provide compensation through the Gift Card Program. Track customer data and analyze patterns to identify opportunities for Leadership. 6. Self‑direct personal and professional development. Maintain proficiency in internal systems (Retek, Pro3, SharePoint). Use in‑house training site to develop Excel, Word, and SQL Developer skills. Peer‑coach new MAs, provide training and guidance. 7. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Position Requirements
40+ work hours per week with the ability to work independently in an office or remotely. Reliable transportation. Positive team attitude, willingness to help others, and a “roll‑up‑your‑sleeves” mindset. Accurate request submission (100%). Exceed expectations by delivering superior customer service. Prioritize projects, multitask, and maintain focus and composure. Effective communication with internal customers and vendors. A flexible attitude toward tasks outside the core responsibilities. Education: High school or GED required; college degree preferred. Experience: Retail experience preferred. Job‑related Skills: Proven skill in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks; strong written and verbal communication; excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; strong work ethic; ability to work in a fast‑paced environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
