Position Summary
VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in correctional healthcare, has an opening for a Spanish Interpreter / Translator at Davidson County Downtown Detention Center in Nashville, TN. We are seeking a skilled Spanish translator to join our team at Sussex Correctional Institution, where you will provide critical language support by facilitating effective communication between Spanish-speaking individuals and staff. Your work will ensure accurate and confidential interpretation of verbal and written communication in a correctional environment, complying with all facility policies and security protocols.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time verbal and written translation between English and Spanish for staff and residents.
Translate documents, forms, and written communications as needed.
Assist during interviews, orientations, medical evaluations, and mental health sessions.
Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when interpreting sensitive or legal information.
Support clear communication to promote safety, compliance, and understanding within the facility.
Collaborate with medical, administrative, and security staff to ensure smooth communication flow.
Minimum Requirements & Skills
Must be fluent in and have a thorough understanding of American Sign Language.
Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
Excellent listening skills and auditory recall to accurately reproduce spoken words in Spanish.
Ability to appropriately understand and respond to culturally sensitive situations, perspectives, and phrases.
Ability to work well under pressure and in intense situations.
