Grand Rapids Community Media Center (GRCMC) is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to building community through media, providing avenues for self-expression and uniting diverse points of view. GRCMC programming includes public‑access television stations GRTV and LiveWire, community radio station 88.1 FM WYCE, community venue Wealthy Theatre, Web Development Services for nonprofits, and local online news platform The Rapidian.

About the role As the GRCMC Community Engagement Coordinator, you will build and maintain relationships between the GRCMC, its programs and the West Michigan community through outreach, event planning, and communication. Key responsibilities include organizing events, managing volunteers, creating promotional material, tracking community feedback, and building partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, schools, and government. The role requires strong communication, organization and public‑speaking skills and involves using social media and managing a budget.

Responsibilities

Represent the GRCMC at community events, effectively showcasing the media center and its diverse programming.

Develop and nurture relationships with community members, businesses, civic groups and other nonprofits to increase participation in our services.

Organize community events, open houses and volunteer drives.

Create and distribute material like brochures, newsletters and social media to promote GRCMC’s mission and services.

Collaborate with local government, community leaders, and other organizations to create and implement initiatives.

Collect data on program participation, volunteer engagement and community feedback, and prepare reports to track progress and impact.

Skills Required

Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and public‑speaking skills are essential.

Interpersonal: Ability to build trusting relationships, work collaboratively, and embody empathy is crucial.

Organization: Strong organizational and time‑management skills are needed to handle multiple tasks and events.

Technical proficiency: Experience in data collection, social media and Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Flexibility: A willingness to work evenings and weekends for events is often necessary.
