Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, seminary, or divinity school is required.
Preferred:
Master’s or Doctor of Divinity/Theology Degree from an accredited institution.
Experience
Licensed, ordained Baptist minister in accordance with Baptist doctrine and procedures.
Minimum five (5) years of experience as a pastor, associate minister, or ministerial leadership position.
Well-versed in African American historical experience, spirituality, consciousness, and culture; solid foundation in Gospel interpretation within African American prophetic preaching and teaching.
Experience working closely with clergy, staff, ministries, and community leaders to advance development and programmatic efficiency in fulfilling church goals, mission, and values.
Skills
Superb communication and elocution skills in delivering biblically-sound messages with relatable life application across demographics and generations.
Advanced business acumen, church finance, organizational and management skills.
Articulate vision for the church that emphasizes and inspires continuous spiritual growth and development.
Working knowledge of social media and its effectiveness for worship and evangelism.
Responsibilities
Plan and conduct worship services, prepare and deliver sermons, lead observance of ordinances (Baptism and Holy Communion).
Conduct and teach members and visitors in weekly prayer meetings and Bible study.
Visit the sick and homebound.
Promote evangelical growth and effectiveness beyond the walls of the church.
Establish community presence through engagement and outreach programs and projects.
Inspire congregants to mature spiritually and operate in a spirit of excellence.
Encourage congregants to use their God-given gifts and talents in living for and serving Christ.
Provide pastoral counseling, perform wedding ceremonies, conduct funerals, and perform children’s dedications.
Facilitate planning, organization, coordination, and evaluation of ministries.
Lead with vision; set clear goals, outline strategic plans, equip and empower members to implement plans.
Develop leaders and members; facilitate their training and assigned responsibilities.
Preside over all church business meetings.
Collaborate on decision‑making opportunities; manage varied resources effectively and efficiently.
Promote unity, seek networking opportunities, and facilitate partnerships within the church body and community.
Participate in local, state, regional, and national Baptist conventions, conferences, and activities.
