Carmel Symphony Orchestra is a vital part of our community's culture. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, results-driven Director of Development who will engage and excite the community as a leader and ambassador for the orchestra. This role is integral to the growth and sustainability of our organization, requiring creativity, adaptability, and exceptional leadership skills.
Position Overview
The Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) seeks a senior, relationship-driven Director of Development to partner with leadership in shaping the organization’s philanthropic future. This role is ideal for a development professional familiar with the Carmel philanthropic community and motivated by building sustainable development capacity over time. The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Director, and Development Committee in a shared decision-making environment to define fundraising priorities, strategies, and pacing that support artistic excellence, financial sustainability, and thoughtful growth. Key Responsibilities
Lead individual, corporate, foundation, and event-based fundraising efforts Personally cultivate and steward mid- and major-level donors Co-develop fundraising priorities and multi-year strategies with leadership Build long-term donor relationships and stewardship experiences Strengthen development systems, tracking, and reporting Mobilize board members and volunteers as fundraising partners Serve as a visible ambassador within the Carmel philanthropic community What Success Looks Like in the First Year
Strong working relationships with leadership Clear understanding of donor base and community opportunities Defined development strategy and pipeline Improved donor engagement and stewardship consistency Strengthened development infrastructure A shared roadmap for multi-year growth Qualifications
Demonstrated success with individual donors Familiarity with Carmel philanthropy preferred Collaborative leadership style Strong communication and relationship skills Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE or advanced degree a plus About the Carmel Symphony Orchestra
