About the team | Ko te rōpū nei Our team is passionate about delivering high-quality design and creative services that support Council’s marketing, communication, and engagement initiatives across digital and traditional channels.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei Reporting to the Team Leader Design, this is an exciting and rewarding role. You'll share responsibility for providing creative direction and guidance and will oversee our talented team of graphic designers in bringing our marketing, communications and engagement material to life.

As part of the wider Communications and Engagement Unit you will be a key member of the team, working on design projects for a wide range of Council services and activities across our digital and print channels.

Key responsibilities include:

Design and produce digital and print collateral in line with Council brand standards.

Assist with job allocation, workflow tracking, and capacity management.

Provide creative direction and guidance to team members and colleagues on digital and print design projects.

Contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the Council’s brand and design systems.

Develop creative concepts, prototypes, and interaction designs for digital projects.

Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and software.

You’ll bring:

A relevant qualification (minimum Level 6 Bachelor of Fine Arts or Graphic Design Diploma).

At least 7 years’ experience in digital and graphic design for both print and digital channels.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Figma) and Microsoft Office.

Strong understanding of UX design, accessibility standards, and web technologies.

Excellent typography, layout, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Leadership capability to guide and mentor team members.

Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street

Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
