Job Posting: Recreation Aid (Lifeguard)
This position is non-appropriated fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Aquatics Center, JBMDL, NJ. Opening and closing dates: 05/02/2025 to 07/31/2025. Salary: $16 - $16 per hour. Location: Few vacancies in the following location: Fort Dix, NJ. This is a flexible position (can work 0-40 hrs per week). This position does not require a remote job or telecommute. This position is permanent, not required to travel, does not reimburse relocation expenses, and has no promotion potential. The job family is 0189 Recreation Aid And Assistant. Supervisory status is not required. Security clearance is not required. Drug test is not required. Position sensitivity and risk is non-sensitive (NS)/low risk. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming area until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include but is not limited to: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, bench areas, sunbathing areas, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results. Must satisfactory complete installation records checks, and state and national criminal background checks. Must have or be willing to obtain nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Qualifying experience: For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have or be in the process of obtaining an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. If not certified prior to employment, must successfully achieve certificate within first thirty (30) days of employment. For coastal lifeguards: In addition to the above, must also have surf rescue techniques training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. Foreign education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
