The unit also procures and increases annual gifts to the university by leveraging existing relationships and creating new ones. AEAG collaborates with partners across campus to plan and implement a coordinated, integrated strategy aimed at increasing support for the university and building a culture of philanthropy within the university and across its constituencies. Office of Annual Giving
uses a multi-channel strategy to engage individuals and families with the capacity to give $1,000–$50,000 annually. The
Assistant Director of Philanthropy
is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors who have the potential to give between $1,000 and $50,000. This role will primarily focus on securing outright annual gifts and pledges and will work to increase membership in the Chancellor’s Circle. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated professional who will support fundraising for current operations and endowments. This role involves acquiring new donors and upgrading existing ones. Solicitations will be multi-channel, including phone calls, mail, emails, and in-person meetings, particularly in regions with a high concentration of alumni. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy in Annual Giving, the Assistant Director will serve as a member of the Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving team, supporting all areas of the University and specifically assigned colleges or units. The position will be expected to develop and manage a portfolio of annual giving prospects, cultivating meaningful relationships and implementing strategies in collaboration with Annual Giving leadership and Development offices across campus. Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, design, implement and evaluate strategies to obtain outright annual gifts and pledges; Conduct at least 1500 personal contacts with prospects and donors annually; Complete 15 solicitations per month; Identify prospective donors and strategically assess their philanthropic capacity and inclination; Provide timely post-visit follow-up including tracking moves and solicitations, and sending a personalized follow-up to individual prospects; Collaboration with colleagues to help align donors’ philanthropic interests with various priorities across campus; Coordination of stewardship efforts as needed with appropriate University Advancement and other campus colleagues Other Responsibilities
Be an active and collaborative team member in Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving as well as University Advancement Attend university-wide events and University Advancement related meetings Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree required with at least one year of professional experience in direct solicitation, fundraising, or a related field like sales. Other Required Qualifications
Ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team in a large, complex research university Experience in cold calling, negotiating, and closing business deals Ability to work independently, while maintaining consistent and transparent communication with a team and leadership Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and analytical skills, with high attention to detail Self-motivated and self-starting Good listener Optimism, perseverance, and a positive attitude Ability to travel around the region Ability to work evenings and weekends as required Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of principles, practices, and ethics of fundraising Understanding of the development process and donor cycle Prior experience in a comprehensive capital campaign Experience in higher education fundraising License and Certifications
A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required within 60 days of the start date. It must be maintained as a condition of employment. Regular local travel and some regional/out-of-state travel is required for this position.
