The City of Madison Parks Division is hiring two (2) Assistant Golf Professionals and two (2) Lead Assistant Golf Professionals for the 2026 golf season. These positions are responsible for the day-to-day management of clubhouse operations at City of Madison golf courses. Selected candidates may be assigned to either a 9-hole course as an Assistant Golf Professional or to an 18-hole course as a Lead Assistant Golf Professional. These positions play a key leadership role in ensuring a positive guest experience through the effective day-to-day operation of a City of Madison golf facility. Assistant Golf Professional (Pay is $25.26/hour) The Assistant Golf Professional (AP) supports the Golf Enterprise Program by overseeing front-line clubhouse operations, customer service, and staff supervision at a smaller-scale 9-hole course environment. This role is essential to maintaining operational consistency, fiscal responsibility, and service quality for a facility generating approximately $750,000 in annual revenue. This position is a front-line oversight role responsible for the overall management of clubhouse operations at a 9-hole City of Madison golf course. The work requires a strong understanding of hospitality and/or golf industry standards, with an emphasis on customer service, daily operations, and staff oversight within a smaller, single-course setting. The employee is responsible for managing day-to-day clubhouse functions, supervising a limited seasonal and part-time staff, and ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and well-maintained environment centered on the guest experience. Responsibilities include oversight of the golf shop, food and beverage service, and outside services as applicable to a 9-hole facility. Knowledge of the game of golf, golf course etiquette, tee sheet management, small-scale events, and daily golf operations is required. The employee must be comfortable with cash handling, Point of Sale (POS) systems, reporting, and opening and closing procedures. This position operates under the direction of the Golf Clubhouse Leadworker and Golf Clubhouse Supervisor. The 9-hole AP positions are based at the following courses: The Glen Golf Park, 3747 Speedway Rd, Madison, WI 53705 Monona Golf Course, 111 East Dean Avenue, Madison, WI 53716 Lead Assistant Golf Professional (Pay is $28.87/hour) The Lead Assistant Golf Professional (Lead AP) serves as the primary on-site operational leader for a City of Madison 18-hole golf course, supporting the mission and financial sustainability of the Golf Enterprise Program. This position provides advanced leadership and operational oversight for a high-volume facility generating approximately $2 million in annual revenue. The Lead AP oversees multiple operational areas including the golf shop, food and beverage service, outside services, leagues, outings, and daily tee sheet management. The Lead AP oversees a larger and more complex staff structure than the AP role, Attendants, and Food & Beverage Servers. This position plays a key role in scheduling, training, staff development, performance management, and conflict resolution. In addition to customer-facing duties, the Lead AP is responsible for financial accountability at the facility level, including cash handling oversight, POS reporting, deposit verification, and operational efficiency. The employee works closely with the Golf Operations Supervisor and Clubhouse Leadworker to ensure alignment with enterprise policies, labor budgets, and service standards. The Lead AP is responsible for ensuring excellent guest experiences, efficient daily operations, staff supervision, and consistent execution of enterprise standards. This role provides leadership across clubhouse operations, staff coordination, and revenue-generating activities at a larger and more complex facility. The Lead Assistant Golf Professional positions are based at the following 18-hole courses: Odana Hills Golf Course, 4635 Odana Road, Madison, WI 53711 Yahara Hills Golf Course, 7051 Millpond Rd, Madison, WI 53718 Application and Eligibility Applications will be accepted until the closing date. Qualifications by role Assistant Golf Professional Provide Customer Service Provide Customer Service – details: Serve as the primary point of contact for golfers at a 9-hole course. Maintain a professional, friendly presence and resolve routine customer concerns related to tee times, pace of play, cart usage, and facility services. Lead Assistant Golf Professional Guest Experience Leadership and Daily Operations Oversight Common Requirements One (1) year of experience in golf operations, hospitality, retail, food and beverage, or a related customer-service field; AND ability to provide basic supervision and direction to part-time or seasonal staff; ability to use Point of Sale (POS) systems and handle cash transactions Two (2) years of experience in golf operations, hospitality, retail, or a food and beverage setting that included leadership responsibilities; AND demonstrated experience supervising staff and working in a customer-facing, high-volume environment; proficiency with POS systems and cash handling procedures Certifications and requirements Wisconsin Responsible Server Certification and City of Madison Operator’s License are required or must be obtained; failure to obtain may result in forfeiture of the position absent extenuating circumstances. Ability to meet transportation requirements; employees work evenings and weekends for leagues and events; PGA apprentice affiliation/membership is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements Ability to access all City of Madison golf courses and facilities; ability to lift 35 pounds; ability to work on uneven terrain; ability to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to pollen, dust, grass clippings, fertilizers, etc.; ability to operate golf carts.
