Assistant Public Defender-Family Court Unit

This is a permanent full-time position in the Dutchess County Office of the Public Defender- Family Court Unit. This is important professional legal work involving responsibility for representing indigent clients as assigned by the Public Defender or by Dutchess County Family Court. Work involves representation of the individual through every stage of proceedings in Family Court. In addition to actual representation, employees in this class assist the Public Defender in the investigation, preparation, conduct and appeal in various court and legal proceedings involving indigent clients. Work is performed in accordance with guidelines provided by law. This position will focus on defending Child Abuse and Neglect cases and assisting the client in dealing with Child Protective Services through all stages of Child Protective Services interactions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Admission to practice law in the State of New York.
