The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of the supply chain function for an aerospace electronic components manufacturer. This role will drive strategic sourcing, supplier management, planning, inventory control, logistics, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and compliance with aerospace quality and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in aerospace or regulated manufacturing environments, experience managing complex supplier networks, and the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities
Supply Chain Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and production demand. Lead, mentor, and develop supply chain, purchasing, planning, and logistics teams. Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Program Management. Oversee strategic sourcing and supplier selection for electronic components, raw materials, and outsourced services. Negotiate contracts, pricing, lead times, and long-term agreements to ensure supply continuity and cost competitiveness. Establish supplier performance metrics (OTD, quality, cost, risk) and lead supplier development initiatives. Manage supplier risk, including obsolescence, capacity constraints, and geopolitical impacts. Planning, Inventory & Logistics
Direct demand planning, production planning, and material forecasting to support customer schedules and program milestones. Optimize inventory levels to balance working capital, service levels, and risk mitigation. Oversee domestic and international logistics, ensuring compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other export regulations. Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure supply chain compliance with aerospace standards and customer requirements (AS9100, FAR/DFAR, ITAR, etc.). Partner with Quality to address supplier quality issues, corrective actions, and audits. Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply disruptions and support business continuity. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies. Leverage ERP/MRP systems and data analytics to improve visibility, accuracy, and decision-making. Support new product introductions (NPI) by ensuring supply readiness and cost targets are met. Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field. 8–12+ years of progressive supply chain experience within aerospace, defense, electronics, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments. Proven leadership experience managing multi-functional supply chain teams. Strong knowledge of electronic components, supplier qualification, and long-lead material management. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and supply chain analytics. Working knowledge of aerospace regulatory and compliance requirements. Preferred
Master’s degree (MBA or MS) preferred. Experience supporting government, defense, or commercial aerospace programs. Lean, Six Sigma, or APICS/CPIM/CSCP certification. Experience managing global suppliers and international logistics.
