Job Summary Job Summary : The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Commercial & Small Business Sales is a key leadership role responsible for driving growth in ORNL Federal Credit Union's Commercial and Small Business Services Department. The AVP will lead, coach, and develop a team of commercial and small business bankers, fostering a high-performance culture through mentoring, performance management, and skill-building. A primary emphasis is on cultivating strong partnerships with branch teams to maximize referrals, qualify leads, and convert them into new relationships. The role requires proactive business development, networking, community involvement, and collaboration with credit, risk, and other internal partners to support overall portfolio growth, client retention, and exceptional service while meeting deposit, loan, and referral goals.
As a producing manager, the AVP will personally originate and manage a portfolio of small business and commercial loans (including lines of credit, term loans, equipment financing, and owner-occupied real estate), while delivering tailored banking solutions such as deposits, treasury management, and other financial services to meet client needs as those products become available. This hands-on producer will focus on building strong, trust-based client relationships, conducting thorough needs assessments, structuring credit proposals, and ensuring high credit quality and regulatory compliance to achieve individual and team sales targets.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Works with the loan officers to promote loan growth, maintain and enhance existing relationships, and secure new relationships to achieve Credit Union strategic goals. This includes communicating to the staff the prevailing risk and pricing appetite, assessment of current economic conditions, and participating in joint calls.
Provides Commercial Lending employees with functional guidance, training, and support to ensure each achieves their highest potential. Through joint calling activities, the AVP will provide real-time feedback based on observations in order to strengthen banker sales skills.
Participates with Commercial Lending leadership in developing and executing strategies to ensure growth in business lending and efficiencies, incorporating into the budgetary process, to meet established department and Credit Union goals.
Participates with Commercial Lending leadership in developing business loan policy, procedures, and internal controls.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Experience Five or more years of Commercial Lending experience is required. One or more years of supervisory experience is required.
Education Bachelor's degree in a business-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Other skills required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
Must have ability to prioritize demands from multiple projects.
Must possess good data analysis skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft 365.
