Under direction of the Construction Manager (a Supervising Transportation Engineer), incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional Senior Resident Engineer on large and/or complex construction projects delivered under alternative delivery methods and/or valued in excess of $30 million. Will assign work, give instructions, make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’ evolving telework policy. In-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed. Travel may be required and reimbursement considers the employee’s designated headquartered location and primary residence, subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Exposure to night work, field work, earthwork, paving operations, lab work, weather, chemicals, equipment, heat, cold, dust, fumes, and noise. Must wear hardhat, safety vest/shirt, eye protection at all times in the field. Work may involve travel, flexible hours, and potential geographic transfers. A valid California driver’s license is desired. Minimum Requirements

Note: An equivalent license or credential may be required for appointment where applicable. Qualifications and Required Documents

The position requires a valid Professional Engineering License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers for appointment. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle. A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your State application. The SOQ should discuss how education and experience meet the evaluation criteria below and must be no more than two pages in length (12-point font). The SOQ must address each criterion separately and in order. Resumes and letters will not be considered as SOQ responses. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (including presentations) and competently represent the Department. Knowledge and experience tracking and monitoring cost, scope and schedule of projects and operating budgets. Knowledge and experience of Construction Contract Administration and Job Order Contracts.
