Overview
Giant Oak Golf Club is seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. If you’re a hands-on turf pro who takes pride in details—clean mowing, smart moisture management, and doing the fundamentals every day—we want to meet you. Giant Oak is a 27-hole golf facility located in Temperance, Michigan (SE Michigan / Toledo, Ohio area). We have been a family-owned and operated business since 1969. Responsibilities
Assist with daily golf course setup, scheduling, mowing, and maintenance duties; train/coach staff in golf course maintenance practices Participate in agronomic programs for greens, tees, fairways, and rough Assist with fertilizer, plant protectant, and cultural practice applications Monitor turf conditions and communicate observations/recommendations Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair Train and mentor seasonal and full-time employees Assist with project planning, execution, and documentation Support tournament preparation and special events Promote and enforce safety and environmental practices Keep equipment standards high (cleanliness, safety checks, reporting issues early) Maintain strong communication with the superintendent/owner and maintenance crew This is a 12-month position. During winter months, the assistant helps with equipment maintenance, outside projects (e.g., tree removal), and maintenance projects in the clubhouse Qualifications
1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience preferred (we will consider standout spray techs/crew leaders/irrigation techs ready to step up) Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills High attention to detail and strong work ethic Strong fundamentals: mowing standards, cup cutting, moisture management, topdressing, rolling, etc. Valid driver’s license Ability to lift 50 pounds and operate typical turf equipment safely Special Requirements
Michigan pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within 90 days). If you’re the right fit, we will support you in obtaining and maintaining your license Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
