SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing, Business/Indirect Procurement Management oversees all aspects of non-clinical spend across the health system. These spend categories include and are not limited to construction, environmental services, human resources, marketing, administrative services, revenue cycle, Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO), etc. This leader will be instrumental in driving cost reduction across the non-clinical service lines, evaluate supplier performance, ensure contract compliance, and will work closely with internal and external partners.
Strategic Planning: • Serve as the internal subject matter expert and strategic advisor to executive leadership, department heads, and key stakeholders on all indirect procurement matters, offering insights into market trends, sourcing strategies, and procurement innovations • Collaborate closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to structure enterprise-wide sourcing strategies for high-impact categories such as construction, administrative services, and MRO, including RFPs, RFIs, contract negotiations, and supplier selection • Proactively develop cost-saving strategies that drive short-term and long-term value, ensuring procurement strategies align with the organization's evolving business goals and objectives • Create and manage a robust pipeline of cost-saving opportunities, collaborating with business leaders to identify immediate, medium-term, and long-term savings while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements • Develop a comprehensive category database to manage supplier performance, track KPIs, and drive long-term strategic supplier relationships aimed at achieving sustainable cost savings and operational excellence • Leverage system-wide purchasing power to consolidate suppliers where possible, ensuring greater economies of scale, and optimize supplier performance across the entire network of hospitals • Utilize data analytics and market intelligence tools to identify cost savings opportunities, optimize sourcing decisions, and refine procurement strategies, ensuring the organization remains competitive within the healthcare industry • Lead the design and execution of long-term procurement strategies aligned with the health system's overall business goals, including supplier innovation, market trend integration, and strategic partner development
Operational Performance • Lead high-stakes, complex negotiations for high-value contracts across diverse spend categories, ensuring favorable terms related to pricing, service levels, terms, and risk mitigation strategies • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with industry regulations, health system policies, and audit standards, establishing a robust governance framework to monitor compliance at all times • Oversee a disciplined, compliant, and efficient contract lifecycle management process, from initial negotiations and drafting to execution and contract renewal, ensuring smooth, high-quality supplier relationships • Implement performance management systems to monitor supplier performance, managing risks proactively and ensuring consistent service delivery while resolving performance issues quickly and effectively • Support continuous process improvement by identifying, prioritizing, and leading the implementation of data-driven process enhancements and best practices, with an emphasis on improving procurement and supplier management workflows • Ensure timely and effective execution of procurement tasks, aligning resources and priorities with the needs of the organization while meeting all deadlines and service expectations • Maintain data integrity by implementing rigorous standards for tracking and reporting procurement data, ensuring that all information presented to internal stakeholders and executive leadership is accurate and timely • Optimize supplier relationships and contract terms by establishing clear performance expectations and building collaborative, long-term relationships that drive efficiency and innovation • Drive significant improvements in operational performance, including supplier quality, delivery timelines, and cost reduction, in alignment with the health system's broader operational goals
Staff Development • Lead, train and develop a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and innovation. Financial Management • Proactively identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, driving value across all categories of non-clinical spend while maintaining the highest standards of service and compliance with health system policies • Manage procurement-related financial targets for both short-term and long-term savings, ensuring that all initiatives are aligned with the organization's overall financial objectives and that procurement budgets are consistently met • Utilize purchasing power at the system level to negotiate favorable terms and reduce costs across all non-clinical spend categories, enhancing the health system's financial position • Develop and manage detailed financial models and performance metrics, tracking savings, return on investment (ROI), and other key financial indicators to ensure that procurement performance aligns with organizational goals • Drive cost-reduction and cost-avoidance initiatives while maintaining an optimal balance between cost, quality, and service, ensuring that procurement decisions consistently contribute to the organization's financial health and operational efficiency • Ensure transparency in financial reporting, providing clear, actionable insights on procurement performance, savings, and cost management to senior leadership and other internal stakeholders • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to assess procurement spend patterns, identify opportunities for cost optimization, and implement strategies that drive both immediate and sustained financial benefits • Other duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications 1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare Administration, Health Care Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline; and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in health and medical service administration, public administration, personnel and labor relations, finance or appropriate functional discipline with an emphasis on planning, liaison and inter-organizational relationships, or related administrative or managerial functions; or 2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above; and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in areas, as listed in "1"; or 3. Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. However, all candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in disciplines, as listed in "1" above
