Job Summary To provide skilled administrative, operational, and program support related to police and security services for new programs and campus events as the University Police Department's Event Coordinator. Requires the ability to comprehend and implement policies and procedures, show strong initiative and work independently or with a group to make decisions relative to routine office operations. Requires the ability to exercise judgment within areas of delegated responsibility. Requires the ability to make sound decisions within university guidelines as well as initiative to suggest changes or updates.
Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university. One (1) year of continuous employment, part time or full time, as a police guard, dispatcher, telecommunications operator, other qualifying positions or other related experience with a component institution of the University of Texas System, as determined by the Chief of Police. Personal computer, calculator. Normal office conditions, occasional travel. Proficiency and accuracy in all phases of duties performed. Requires ability to develop a thorough knowledge of University structure, policies, rules and procedures and of appropriate business practices and techniques. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
Other Qualifications To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a schedule of pending campus events
Coordinate with key university managers on special event risk assessments
Coordinate and implement law enforcement/security functions
Communicate and brief operational plans with institution partners
Ensure appropriate safety and security measures are addressed and in place prior to major events on campus
Training Will Be Provided
in the following, but not limited to:
National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS)
Institution/Department Emergency Plans
Special Event Planning and Operations and Risk Assessment
Work with the department intelligence officer to monitor intelligence sources for relevant information that may affect the assessment rating and/or planning elements. If the risk assessment changes before the event, you will ensure the information is communicated appropriately to relevant institutional partners and necessary changes are made to account for the increased or decreased risk. Review event organizers and/or sponsors to ensure any involved businesses or entities are not a convicted felon, habitual offender, member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, member of an organized criminal street gang identified as such, member of a drug trafficking organization, is not engaged in prostitution or human trafficking or otherwise of disreputable character or reputation. Be able to communicate through the chain of command, the event plan as well as brief the officers involved.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Also, must be able to lift 40 to 50 lbs occasionally. Most of the work will be performed in normal office conditions, however outside activities/events could require your attendance. You must be able to perform with proficiency and accuracy in all your duties. Must be able to adapt to university structure, policy, rules and regulations and be able to perform the job duties within those parameters. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be eligible to drive a university owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
