
Purchasing Agent
Location: Sterling Heights, MI

Position Summary The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement and leasing of construction materials, equipment, permanent facility components, and subcontractor services. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely delivery, cost efficiency, and compliance with project specifications and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare written inquiries and obtain verbal or written quotes for vendor-supplied items and subcontractor services.
Evaluate vendor bids based on price, delivery timelines, performance history, and compliance with specifications.
Negotiate terms and conditions, issue purchase orders, and manage purchase change orders.
Expedite purchase orders as needed to ensure timely delivery to job sites.
Manage third-party rental contracts including awards, renewals, and terminations; maintain rental files and tracking systems.
Resolve invoice discrepancies and coordinate delivery requirements with vendors and project managers.
Maintain accurate documentation for all purchase orders and procurement activities.
Track and report minority purchasing requirements; complete necessary compliance forms.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and sales representatives.
Obtain catalog submittals and drawings for purchased materials when required.
Perform additional assignments as directed by the Director of Purchasing.
Qualifications Required
Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction purchasing.
Working knowledge of procurement techniques, procedures, policies, products, accounting, and business contract law.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Education
Four-year technical or business degree, or equivalent combination of education and procurement experience.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to travel: 0% – 10%
Frequently operates a computer, calculator, copier, and other office equipment.
Occasionally moves about the office to access files and equipment.
Regular communication with internal teams and external vendors.
