Assistant Director of Facilities and Plant Operations

Job Summary

The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Plant Operations and oversees the day‑to‑day maintenance and operations of the institution’s buildings and grounds at the Brunswick Campus, Camden Center, and other off‑campus locations. The role provides first‑line supervision of Facilities and Plant Operations personnel, assigns and reviews work, and ensures high quality of work while addressing employee concerns.

Responsibilities Supervise operations and maintenance activities, including building and equipment maintenance, custodial services, landscape and grounds functions, and event setup services.

Coordinate and monitor work‑order scheduling, equipment maintenance, and inventory.

Monitor operational efficiency of all plant equipment and facilities, overseeing HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and other major building systems.

Develop, implement, and sustain a preventive maintenance plan for all College facilities.

Assist the Director in developing an annual Major Repair and Renovation (MRR) funding request.

Assist in the timely completion of projects, minimizing disruptions to mission‑critical activities.

Handle and direct special projects assigned by the Director.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.

Associate’s degree or significant relevant experience in facilities management, plant operations, or a related field.

Demonstrated knowledge of building operations principles, applicable codes, laws, and regulations.

Strong analytical, planning, organizing, verbal and written communication skills.

Current valid driver’s license with an acceptable record.

Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test.

More than 5 years of experience in facilities management, plant operations, or building maintenance with increased levels of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications Supervisory experience overseeing skilled trades, custodial teams, or maintenance technicians.

Ability to read architectural drawings, mechanical schematics, and technical manuals.

Experience managing emergency response protocols and campus incident coordination.

Ten or more years of experience in facilities operations, maintenance, or plant management in a higher education or large‑campus environment.

Experience implementing change and improving performance through quality improvement initiatives.
