
Sr. Mechanical Estimator

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Mechanical Estimator
to support mechanical estimating efforts across a variety of complex projects. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, validating trade pricing, and supporting senior leadership through detailed cost analysis and reconciliation. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong technical judgment, and collaborates effectively with project teams, architects, and engineers. This is a remote position, with a strong preference for candidates located near one of the listed office locations. Key Responsibilities
Analyze drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates. Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from schematic, design development, and construction documents. Develop detailed “should-cost” estimates to validate subcontractor pricing and ensure fair market value. Reconcile trade bids against project scope, budget, market conditions, and cost benchmarks. Apply knowledge of union and trade construction cost standards. Source current pricing from contractors, suppliers, and cost databases. Prepare cost reconciliations between multiple estimates and clearly explain variances. Maintain organized project documentation and adhere to established file structure standards. Support and maintain internal cost data libraries. Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and internal project teams to clarify scope and assumptions. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and support senior staff initiatives. Provide guidance and support to junior estimating staff. Participate in site walks and client visits as required. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Required Qualifications
Extensive experience performing mechanical takeoffs and cost estimating. Strong working knowledge of
RSMeans . Experience aligned with
MCAA and/or NECA
standards. Ability to reconcile trade bids and develop independent cost validation. Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic project environment. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on large or technically complex projects. Familiarity with market pricing trends across multiple regions. Ability to mentor and support junior technical staff. Additional Notes
Contract workers must be willing to travel quarterly to Indianapolis, IN. Candidates from general contractor backgrounds are not preferred. Preference for candidates located near one of the listed office locations, despite the remote nature of the role.
