
Survey Crew Chief
Role Overview
This full-time, on-site position is responsible for leading and coordinating field survey operations in support of civil engineering and construction projects. The Survey Crew Chief will oversee daily survey activities, ensure field data accuracy, and maintain compliance with project requirements and safety standards. This role requires hands‑on technical expertise, strong leadership in the field, and effective coordination with internal project teams.
Key responsibilities include executing topographic, boundary, and related land surveys; operating and maintaining survey equipment; and interpreting plans and specifications to support project deliverables. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, safety‑focused, and capable of managing field operations efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise survey crews performing topographic, boundary, ALTA, and related surveys
Operate and troubleshoot GPS/GNSS and total station survey equipment
Interpret construction documents, technical drawings, and site plans
Ensure accuracy, quality control, and adherence to project specifications
Maintain compliance with safety standards and applicable surveying regulations
Coordinate survey activities and communicate effectively with project stakeholders
Document field data and support downstream engineering and construction efforts
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in land surveying, including topographic and ALTA surveys
Proficiency with modern survey equipment such as GNSS/GPS and total stations
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Proven leadership experience managing field crews
Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Familiarity with applicable local and state surveying regulations preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional surveying certifications a plus
