At Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC), communications is more than messaging—it’s how we connect people to purpose. The Communications Manager collaborates to lead strategic internal and external communications for PCHC and PCHC’s Foundation, shaping how our mission comes to life for employees, patients, donors, partners, and the broader community.
We’re looking for an experienced, mission-driven communicator with a bachelor’s degree in a related field. The ideal candidate brings a collaborative, curious mindset, a passion for storytelling, and strong attention to detail and deadlines. Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or mission-driven settings—and supervising or mentoring staff—is strongly preferred.
Salary Range:
$64,480 USD to $92,102.40 USD
Location:
Bangor, ME (Administration, 103 Maine Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401, USA)
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday–Friday, typical business hours. Hybrid remote schedule: candidate must be able to work in Bangor, Maine, and must be eligible per PCHC\'s Telecommuting Policy.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Lead Strategic Communications:
Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies that advance organizational goals for both PCHC and PCHC’s Foundation, ensuring messages are timely, engaging, and aligned with our mission and values.
Serve as a Trusted Advisor to Leadership:
Partner with senior leaders to advise on communication strategy, messaging, timing, and channels, helping ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with organizational priorities.
Champion Brand, Voice, and Storytelling:
Create and manage branding guidelines and design standards, ensuring a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all internal and external communications.
Strengthen Internal Communications:
Oversee internal communications efforts, including PENPoints, leadership messages, announcements, and workforce communications, fostering connection, transparency, and shared purpose across the organization.
Manage Digital Presence:
Own and guide PCHC’s website content and social media strategy, collaborating with internal teams to ensure information is accurate, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals, while tracking performance and impact.
Collaborate Across Teams and Partners:
Work closely with departments, the PCHC Foundation, and external partners to deliver high-quality communications projects on time and within scope.
Support Events and Special Initiatives:
Plan and support internal and external events as assigned, including communications planning, promotional materials, and pre- and post-event messaging.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in a healthcare, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization.
Demonstrated experience with internal and external communications with social media management.
Prior experience coordinating events and managing external vendors strongly preferred.
Supervisor experience or demonstrated ability to lead and mentor staff preferred.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and/or sufficient driving experience for insurance purposes is required. Any concerns from the driving record check will be reviewed to determine relevance to responsibilities per PCHC’s Automobile Safety and Background Check Policy.
